Berjayakah dia? Semuanya bakal terjawab dalam Kampung Drift.
Combining action, comedy and sci-fi, Kampung Drift is a cross-genre coming-of-age tale of Johan, a teenager in search of the meaning of life and love through drift racing. Despite his father’s objection, Johan continues to find ways to unleash his passion for the sport with the help of his best friend Bojeng, his uncle Ajoi, and the mad scientist, Pak Idun.
When Johan accidentally discovers his family history and his father’s dark secret related to drift racing, he vows to turn his passion into a lifelong ambition. However, his road to glory is far from easy. He struggles through deceit, betrayal and love triangles involving his childhood crush, Julia, secret admirer, Shiela and scheming rival, Ray.
And when a fatal accident is about to happen before his eyes, Johan does the unthinkable. He uses a time-travelling machine to go back to the past to save his love ones in the future. Will he succeed? All will be revealed in Kampung Drift.
I love to observe; yet, I am not good at expressing myself. But my years of experience and my rebellious character helped me to discover my way of expressing myself, which is filmmaking. “Kampung Drift” is a very emotional movie. Within 93 minutes , I want my audience to feel the variety of emotions that I want to express through the language of film."
“Kampung” refers to a village. “Drift” refers to car drifting. The combination of these two words has a very strong contrast. It is this intense contrast that runs through the entire movie. Some of these examples include life and death; love and hate; city and village; the past and the future. The reason why people become braver is because they give up, they tear uncontrollably because they feel rejoice. This also confirms the line in the film, “the finish line is not everything”. Every destination is a start, and every failure is the beginning of success.
In this multiple genre film, many emotions intersect at a fine line. In fact, many examples in today’s society exist in the film. Johan was a rural child in the movie, but he was curious about everything. Acai was Johan’s father. He was a retired rider who hide himself in the village to embrace the remorse of the past. The story began in these two odd positions. The last scene was the easiest, yet it was most difficult scene to interpret. The reason is because all the thoughts and emotions happen in the blink of an eye. Thanks to the superb performance of the two actors to make this happen…Sorry, maybe performance might not be the correct way to say this because by the time I yell “Cut”, I discovered many of our staff members crying!
